The role of the Parent council is to contribute to the goal of student achievement, to inform parents about school details, to assist in raising funds, and to create a platform for positive collaboration.

Principal's Report
- New supervision schedule has come into action for the baseball diamond/field.
- Literacy resources were culled and purchased for PRI classes.
- Math resources have been culled and updated.
- Trips and transition visits have been planned.
- EQAO will be on June 5th and 6th .
- Discover Kindergarten is coming up as well.
- Play Day planning has begun with a First Nations, Metis and Inuitdigenous lens for activities.
- Network learning for the year is wrapping up (Math, Literacy, Destreaming)
- Track and Field
- Our band went to Nationals and won 2 Silver awards.
- WHPS Playdate will be June 19th .
- SIP planning will is ongoing.
Teacher’s Report
Kindergarten
The garden has been planted. Thank you to council for the funds to make this possible. The vegetable garden has been planted in the planter boxes (pumpkins, eggplant, cucumbers, beans and carrots). They have also planted flowers in the pots and under trellises.
Field Trips
Many classes have been able to go on field trips, unfortunately lack of bussing and increased costs have been limitations for some classes.
Social/Community
- June is Indigenous People's Month. Displays and art work will be lent out for displays.
- Pride Month begins next week across YRDSB. WHPS will have flag raising ceremony next week to commemorate.
- Character assembly takes place Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to Mr. Ferguson’s class for leading the assembly about Perseverance
- Grade 8 grad will take place on June 26 -Primary Play day will take place on June 19th
Sports
- Last week was the school Track and Field event at WHPS for all junior and Intermediate students. Those who qualify for regionals will participate June 4th and June 5th respectively. Finals will be June 18th
- Badminton has ended
Arts & Music
- Student art work was on display at the Latchum Art Gallery in Stouffville as part of the "Celebrations" exhibit, 2-3 pieces from every classroom was donated for display.
- Jazz Band won silver for the first time at nationals and Silver was awarded to the concert band at nationals in Toronto. This is exceptional as there is no intermediate or junior measure and bands are held to high school standards. Mrs. Mitchell thanks council for the additional support for sending students to nationals.
- Ms. Cho has organized the Arts Cards Fundraiser was done by every class. Orders were placed by May 22 and orders should be delivered soon.
- Talent show auditions are occurring towards the end of the month on May 31.
Library
- One of WHPS students Gavin (grade 7) held an author visit in our library where he read a passage from his published novel and took questions from the audience.
- Ms. Meyer has been busy with changing displays for Earth Day, Asian Heritage month, and June displays will focus on Eid, Indigenous People's Day.
- Ms. Meyer organized the celebration for the forest of reading and voting. She wanted to say thank you to council for continuing to support the Forest of Reading
- Ms. Meyer is planning 2 book fairs for next year. One will be in the fall and one will be in the spring. Unfortunately, the last fair date this year is June 14th so it did not line up with the primary event in June.
Additional Info
Character Assembly for optimism takes place on June 12....no pies will be thrown at this event.
